What is a marine chafe guard?

Chafe guards go by many different names. Chafe guards, wear and tear pads, rub pads, and more.

Regardless of the name, a chafe guard is a device used to protect your boat's surface from scrapes, cuts, and gouges caused in typical marine environments. The chafe guard takes the abusive so your boat doesn't.

What is the No-Wear Guard Chafe Guard used for?

The No-Wear Guard is used to protect your boat from scratches, chafing, and other wear from:

You certainy can! Not only can a No-Wear Chafe Guard protect your boat from future damamge, it can also cleanly cover existing damage and blemishes to your boat. So long as properly prepped and installed, this can provide you protection for years to come.

How thick / flexible is the No-Wear Guard?

The No-Wear Guard is 0.2mm thick 316 Stainless Steel. it is flexible enough to bend around curved surfaces, but strong enough to withstand line, chain, and foot traffic. It's even strong enough to withstand a knife blade!

How strong is the No-Wear Guard?

In short...very!

While it's thin and flexible, don't let the thickness fool you. The No-Wear Guard has proven itself to withstands years of chain, line, and foot traffic and still perform. It can even take cuts from a knife blade without being penetrated.

What type of surfaces can a No-Wear Guard be installed on?

No-Wear Guards can be installed on all types of surfaces, including:

  • Fiberglass
  • Wood
  • Aluminum
  • Steel
  • Plastics (including headfoils, hatches, and more)

How long does a No-Wear Chafe Guard last?

How long a No-Wear Guard installation last depends on a number of factors. How clean was the installation? How harsh is the environment the chafe guard is exposed to? What is the complexity of the install surface? And more.

This being said we have reports of customers who have succesffuly used chafe guards for many years - with many customers over 6 seasons without issue and counting

Why use 316 Stainless Steel?

316 Stainless Steel is considered the finest marine grade stainless steel - designed to withstand years of use in salt water environments. No-Wear Guard only uses 316 Stainless Steel to ensure years of service protecting your boat.

What if I need to remove a No-Wear Chafe Guard - how diificult is this? Will there be any long term effects?

No-Wear Chafe Guards can be pulled / peeled off with a little bit of elbow grease. As for the adhesive backing, if there is any resident left it can be cleaned with a good solvent that is compatible with your boat surface.

Can I custom fit a No-Wear Guard?

While the No-Wear Guard is highly resistant to scratches, scrapes, and other wear - it can be cut to fit your specific installation. A sturdy pair of scissors can be used to cut a custom shape specific to your vessel.

Can a No-Wear Guard be installed on curved surfaces?

No-Wear Guards can be installed on flat or curved surfaces. For a best fit pre-fit the chafe guard to any surfaces before removing the adhesive backing and installing.

Note No-Wear Guards can be installed on a single curve, but multiple curves may reduce the lifetime of the chafe guard.

What can I do to ensure a perfect installation?

There are a few tips to improve a No-Wear Guard installation:

  • Ensure a clean installation surface
  • Fill in any cracks or gouges in the existing surface
  • Pre-fit any curves prior to peeling the adhesive and installing
  • After affixing the chafe guard, add some clear silicone sealant to the edges to ensure a waterproof fit
